What is Dichroic Glass
Dichroic Glass was developed by the NASA space program as a component for their satellite mirrors. Dichroic Glass refers to a glass containing multiple layers of metals or oxides which give the Dichroic Glass optical properties. The main characteristic of this glass is that it has a particular transmitted colour and a completely different reflected colour as certain wavelengths of light either pass through or are reflected. The properties of the glass allow for extremely high temperatures whilst in the kiln.
It is only when the Dichroic glass has been kiln fired that the unique characteristics and the true depth of colour are revealed – thus NO two pieces can ever be replicated. All Dichroic Glass is manufactured in the United States of America and is imported into Australia.
